Abstract

521,427. Road surface boxes. ARNETT, T. Nov. 19, 1938, No. 33671. [Class 107] Relates to covers for road surface boxes of the kind which rest on a horizontal flange extending inwardly round the box and are provided with a gravity-controlled catch pivoted on the underside to engage automatically with a projection on the box when the cover is closed, the cover being lifted by a key inserted through a key-hole slot. According to the invention, the cover B is recessed into the box at M and the underside is provided with a catch C pivoted at H and gravitycontrolled to engage an inclined projection D on the box A. Further the catch is released by inserting a key E through a key-hole F and turning the key so that a projection engages beneath an arm J on the catch. By raising the key, the catch is released and arrested by a stop L on the cover, further movement of the key then raising the cover. The front and side edges are shown bevelled to fit the frame at the top edge and to be spaced apart from the seat at the bottom edge.
