Abstract

375,814. Manhole frames and covers. ELKINGTON, V., Dour Iron Foundry, Dover. Jan. 1, 1931, No. 130. [Class 107.] Relates to manhole frames of the kind which consist of separate side sections having inclined seating faces for the cover and secured together at the corners to form a rigid structure. According to the invention, the known construction, previously adopted for rectangular covers, is applied to frames composed of three, five, or more side sections. Fig. 1 shows a frame of triangular form with mitred corner pieces a4, a<5>, a<6>, whilst Fig. 4 shows an octagonal frame including similar corner pieces. The juxtaposed jointing faces of the sections are connected in known manner by bolts a<8> and by keys formed of metal run into recesses f. The cover may be formed in a similar manner from sections secured at the corners and may in the case of a parallel-sided frame have depending lugs for engagement in known manner with tracks on the frame for raising the cover as it is dragged off its seat.
