Abstract

386,073. Sliding gates. LANGLANDS, H. B., Sterry Street, Tabard Street, Borough, London. Nov. 5, 1931, No. 30707. [Class 45.] Overlapping plates g of substantially the full height of the gate are attached along one vertical edge to the outer one of each alternate pair of sliding pickets a<1> as in Fig. 3 or to each outer sliding picket as in Fig. 5 so that they extend across the gate when the latter is fully shut and slide one over another as the gate is opened. Distance-pieces g<1> are provided to compensate for the thickness of the plates. In modifications both faces of the gate may be provided with overlapping plates arranged similarly. Vertical strengthening channel bars h, Fig. 3, which may be similar to the pickets, are attached to the free edges of the plates and to both edges of the front plate, or the free edges of the plates may be grooved as at g<2>, Fig. 5. The bars' h may be guided top and bottom in grooves, being cranked to compensate for the offsetting of the plates. The two end pickets may be rigidly connected by a plate g3, Fig. 5. Brass strips k may be fitted across the front faces of the plates to take the wear between the plates, and an inspection aperture may be cut in the front plate.
