[Class 45] Collapsable sliding gates of the type in which the sliding pickets are provided with overlapping plates each secured at a marginal edge to one of the pickets, have bevelled surfaces formed at or secured to the overlapping edges of the plates so that when the gate is closed the overlapping plates interlock. The pickets a carry plates c either on one or on both sides of the plane in which the gate slides, distance pieces d of progressive thickness being interposed between the plates and the pickets to permit operation of the gate. Strips e having a bevelled surface e<1> are secured at the free edge of the plates, strips f with bevelled surfaces f<1> being secured to the plates at the region of their attachment to the pickets, so that when the gate is closed the surfaces e<1> and f<1> interlock. The strips e and f may have perpendicular flanges e<2>. The bevelled surfaces for interlocking may be formed by bending over the edges of the plates c. In a further modification bars with bevelled surfaces may replace the strips e and f. Rubbing strips may be provided on the plates to avoid scratching &c. by the movement of the superposed plate. The plates may extend the full height of the gate and the bevelled strips &c. may be guided on rails at their upper and lower ends.
