UNITED STTES PATENT OFFEQE,
GUSTAV HELGE, OF BROOKLYN, NEVI YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE V]. NUNEMAN, OF BROOKLYN, NEN YORK.
DRAFT PLATE FOR WINDOWS.
Application filed June 29,
This invention relates to improvements in double-hung window sashes, and has for its object to provide a metal steering plate that operates in conjunction with the lower and upper sash, and which serves several needs and purposes as will hereinafter more fully be described and pointed out.
This plate will thus eliminate all. dust and draft from the corners of double-hung windows at meeting rails, where sashes meet parting strip on sides of j ambs.
It will furthermore on account of its special construction act as a steering guide for loose and rattling windows.
\Vith the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangements of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming parts of this specilication, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views and in which: I
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, as it appears when fastened with screws upon the lower sash; Fig. 2 is a plan view of same; and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line AA of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 10 indicates a metal plate adapted to be fastened on top at each upper corner of the lower sash of a double hung window. Said plate is provided with a substantially square, cut-out portion 11 to allow space for, and form a snug fitting with, the parting strip 15 of the window. This plate has a further reduced portion as shown at 12, pro viding sutlicient space for the sash cord 16, for which purpose it has at its base, been. formed with a slight, inward curvature 13. This reduced portion further takes in space, as indicated at l t, in order to permit the passing of the sash pulley, when the sash is opened and raised to the top of a window frame.
In order to secure at all times a close and compact fitting of this metal plate during 1926. Serial No. 119,294.
wear and tear, the latter is fastened to the sash by means of screws 17 and 18, which screws move in substantially oblong holes, 19 and 20, respectively, and have screw heads of a preferably flat shape 21 and 22, but of a greater diameter than said holes in order to secure the plate in proper position,
For the same purpose and as an essential feature to that end, I have formed said plate with a somewhat enlarged, oblong recess, or hole, 20 and placed within same a flat leaf spring 23 in an edgewise longitudinal position, properly secured by means of said screw 18. While I may construct the latter with a flat head of a size suficiently large to secure said leaf in proper position during movement of the plate, I prefer to apply a washer 24 in conjunction with said screw in order to maintain a perfect position of said leaf during the function of same in performing a closing up movement of said plate to lit snugly the adj oining window members.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore limit myself to the construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States.
An article of manufacture comprising a metal plate of a substantially rectangular shape, provided with edgewise recesses and a plurality of apertures; the latter adapted to loosely receive fastening screws, a cen-- trally cut out portion provided for the iii-- sertion of a fiat leaf spring for controlling the movement of said plate, and means for securing said spring in proper position. sub stantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
GUETAV HELGE.
