Feedwater, supplying. - In gravity-feed apparatus comprising two chambers which are alternately filled with feedwater at a pressure below the boiler pressure, and which are then placed in turn in communication with the boiler steam space to allow the water to flow into the boiler, the chambers are provided with pressure controlling devices which prevent the pressure from being raised at the same time in both containers beyond that of the supply to the containers from the feed pump or injector. The supply and discharge of boiler steam to and from the chambers are controlled by compound valves, and the water in each container is allowed to flow over into an auxiliary container after a certain pressure is reached, as described in Specification 309,995. An auxiliary container may be formed by dividing a main container by a transverse partition having an opening at the top and a non-return valve at the bottom.
