Abstract
213,492. Thomson, J. G. July 27, 1923. Tidal energy, utilizing.-The apparatus comprises a reservoir 1 having side compartments 2, 3, a central compartment 4, side channels 9, 10 and a lowlevel storage reservoir 32, the side compartments being allocated into a number of sections, each provided with motors of the kind described in Specification 200,559. A high-level storage reservoir 33 for supplying water to the motors at slack tide may be provided. During the flow of the tide, water enters the side channels through non- return valves 18, and enters the side compartments through pipes 19 - - 27, the pipes 25, 26, 27 being arranged at differing levels and having outlet valves, which may be constructed as described in Specification 190,403, and close when the water in the compartments attains predetermined levels. From the side compartments, the water passes to the reservoir 32. At high tide, free access of water is allowed to the side compartments and reservoir 32. During the ebb, water passes from the reservoir 32, through the compartment 4 and pipes 19 - - 27, to the side compartments from which it escapes through ports 34, 35 fitted with non-return valves, and at low tide water escapes from the central compartment through a port 36 provided with a floatcontrolled valve.
