Abstract
223,374. Todd, J. May 13, 1924. Tidal energy, utilizing.-The apparatus comprises a main impounding reservoir B<1>, Fig. 1, auxiliary reservoirs D, E supplied through inlets H having gates h<1>and means h for trapping waves, spray &c., and tail-water reservoirs C, F. Where available, inland water may be admitted to the auxiliary reservoirs at d. An elevated trough K, Fig. 2, supported above part of the reservoir B' and connected with hydraulic motors at J, is supplied with water drawn from the reservoir by injectors operated by water supplied from the auxiliary reservoirs. Outside the gates b of the main reservoir are other groups of motors J<2>, J<3> operated by the rising tide or the escape of tail-water from the reservoirs C, F. Motors J<1> utilize the surplus energy of spring tides and the motors J<1>, J<2>, J<3> are utilized to operate pumps delivering into the auxiliary reservoirs.
