Abstract
158,368. Master, S. D. Nov. 4, 1919. Tidal energy, utilizing.-Apparatus for utilizing tidal energy comprises one or a number of tanks 1 fed by the tide through non-return valves 4 in the sides or bottom of the tank and provided with a series of outlets 5 leading to turbines &c. 6. One or more of these turbines serves to pump water through the pipe 15 to an auxiliary tank 14. Valves 16, 18 in the pipe 15 and a branch pipe 17 may be operated automatically according to the levels in the tanks 1, 14. As the water in the tank 1 falls, the turbines are maintained at a constant velocity by the admission of water from the tank 14 through the pipe 19. This is effected by means of a ball float 23 operating a valve 21. The turbines are connected together and to a fly-wheel 10 by means of a connecting-rod 9. Dynamos 12 &c. may be driven from the fly-wheel by means of the belt 11.
