Abstract
204,927. Baumann, K., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Oct. 26. 1922. Cooling parts.-To prevent overheating of the low-pressure end of a turbine when running under no-load or light-load conditions, one or more open pockets for receiving water are provided in the exhaust casing, the water evaporating and cooling the exhaust casing. The pockets may be formed by metal plates 5 bolted at their lower edges to the wall 2 and to the inner ribs 3. The double ribs 4 also act as water pockets, the water evaporating through holes 6. The water level in a pocket may be maintained by a float 8 controlling a valve 9 admitting feed-water to a cistern 7. Alternatively, the water may be supplied to the pockets through nozzles, and overflow into the exhaust.
