Abstract
496,768. Softening water. HODGKISON, F. H. Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27248. [Class 46] [Also in Group XIII] In a water boiler for cafÚs combined with a water softener 11 of the base-exchange type and a cold water tank 7 supplied through a float -controlled valve 9, cold water delivery connections are made to the boiler directly at 25 from the tank and indirectly at 20 through the softener, these connections being adjustable by valves 26, 21. Softened or hard water or a mixture of these may be supplied to the boiler. The softener has base-exchange material 15, a bed 14 of chipped quartz and filter plates 13 ; it may be revivified by washing with water from a pipe 30 overflowing at 10, followed by passage of salt water from the tank 7, and a final rinsing. Specification 298,414, [Class 64 (i)], is referred to.
