Abstract
309,995. Friedmann, L., Friedmann, M., and Schopp, N., (trading as Friedmann, A., [Firm of]). April 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Feedwater, supplying. - In gravity-feed apparatus comprising two chambers 10, 40 which are alternately filled with feed-water through a pipe 4, and which are then placed in turn in communication with the boiler steam space through a pipe 8 to allow the water to flow into the boiler through pipes 20, 50, the admission of boiler steam. to each chamber through the pipe 8 is controlled by the pressure in the other chamber. Boiler steam is supplied through a throttle valve 7 to the feed injector 1 or the like delivering water to, say, the chamber 10, its entrance to the other chamber, which is now under boiler pressure, being prevented by a non-return valve 41. Boiler steam enters the chamber 40 through a valve 24 forming part of a compound valve 14 on the chamber 10 and flows through a pipe 19 and ports 56 in a compound valve 44 on the chamber 40. When the chamber 10 is full, the water passes through a small aperture 13 to an auxiliary chamber 12 or through a loaded valve, and the back pressure set up acting upon the er.larged end 29 of the compound valve 14 lifts it against the downward pressure of the boiler steam acting upon the valve 25 and closes the valve 24. The boiler steam is thus cut off from the chamber 40 and the steam remaining in the chamber flows through the pipe 19 and ports 26 in the valve 14 into the chamber 19, where it is condensed. The valve 44 is then forced downwards by the boiler steam, water enters the chamber 40 through the non-return valve 41. steam flows through the valve 54, pipe 19 and apertures 26 into the chamber 10, and the cycle of operations is repeated. In a modification, in place of the pipe 19, the space 17 around the valve on each chamber is placed in direct communication through a pipe with the other chamber, and non-return valves are provided to prevent the passage of boiler steam from one chamber to the other.
