Abstract

251,938. Brown, E. May 11, 1925, [Convention date]. Cylinders, passages and liners for, and arrangement and form of ports in.-In a twostroke - cycle multicylinder engine, in which the exhaust and scavenging or charging ports are arranged round the cylinder and uncovered by the piston, a pair of exhaust and of inlet passages are arranged on opposite sides of the line of cylinders. The invention, which is also applicable to a single-acting engine, is shown as applied to a double-acting engine. Exhaust ports 38, 39 lead to passages 22 - - 25 which are arranged to form between them the inlet passages leading to ports 40, 41. The cylinder barrels are each formed in three parts 33 34, 37, the part 37 forming distance pieces for the exhaust boxes to which the parts 33, 34 are fixed by flanges 35, 36. The opposing edges of the parts are formed with crenellations which partially slide into one another and form the ports. Guides may be provided in the exhaust passages. Cylinders, cooling. - Cooling water passes through annular ducts 56, 57 and tubes 55 to cavities in the webs of the ports.
