Abstract

261,726. Krupp Germaniawerft Akt.- Ges. F. Nov. 17, 1925, [Convention date]. Cylinders, arrangement and shape of ports in, varying clearance of, and cooling.- The scavenging ports B of a two-stroke-cycle engine cylinder A are arranged in two groups symmetrically with respect to the exhaust ports C and direct the air upwardly so that it takes the path shown by the arrows and passes between the two sets of ports B, which may be tangential to an imaginary cylinder coaxial with the cylinder A. In the case of a double acting cylinder, the same ports B may be used for both cylinder ends by providing movable guides which are alternately directed to opposite ends of the cylinder; the piston face may be more hollow on the piston-rod side than on the other side to facilitate the flow of scavenging air and a hollow water-cooled filling-piece may be provided inside the cylinder head adjacent the piston-rod stuffing-box.
