Cylinders, cooling.- The cowling around an engine is constructed so that each cylinder 2 is in a separate channel 6, Figs. 1 and 2, through which air currents pass parallel to the surfaces of the cooling-ribs; the channel may have valves 5 at the ends. In a modification, the cylinder heads project through a cylinder 10, Fig. 3, upon which the cowling is built to form the channels 13.
