Abstract

116,552. Guy, S. S. June 19, 1917. Cylinders, cooling.-In engines having cylinders in line, combustible mixture in passing to the inlet ports traverses a chamber enclosing or communicating with the cylinder head or heads. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to an engine having tandem cylinders with adjacent combustion spaces the charges passing through a chamber 3 which opens into a supply pipe from the carburettor at 11 and into inlet passages 7 leading to the cylinders. According to a modified construction, two doubleacting cylinders are arranged in line, the passages around the cylinder heads communicating with one another and with a common supply pipe from the carburettor.
