Abstract

115,085. Frost, C. R. B., and Thorne, G. April 25, 1917. Four-stroke-cycle engines.-The engine is of the tandem-cylinder type, with adjacent combustion chambers. In one form, the engine has four pairs of tandem-cylinders arranged abreast, and the cranks 1, 2, 3, 4, Figs. 2 and 3, are set to follow one another at angles of 90 degrees, the firing order being 1, 4, 2, 3, 2, 3, 1, 4. In another form, Fig. 5, the engine has eight pairs of cylinders and the cranks follow one another at angles of 45 degrees; the firing order is 1, 3, 7, 5, 2, 4, 8, 6, 2, 4, 8, 6, 1, 3, 7, 5.
