Abstract

228,969. Stratton, F. F. Nov. 7, 1923. Spray carburettors.-The slow-running nozzle C<1> is formed in the casing of the rotary throttle valve P, and is supplied with fuel by a pipe F' branched from the feed to the main nozzle E, the supply being controlled by a hand adjusted screw W, and by a suction-actuated spring-loaded piston U<1> carrying a conical valve V. When the fuel valve V is closed, air inlets W in the casing U are nearly closed by the piston, which is provided in its face with passages W<2> for the mixture. When the throttle P is closed, a port P<1> therein is brought into alignment with the nozzle C'. The fuel supply to the main nozzle E is controlled bv a needle valve D<1> interconnected with the throttle valve, and the outlet from the nozzle is controlled bv a conical valve S carried bv a suction-actuated piston T. The fuel as it leaves the nozzle is atomized by air drawn through a flared tube Q and through converging passages R formed in the head of the nozzle.
