Abstract

Sliding-jaw wrenches.-A quick-set wrench comprises a shank 1 carrying the fixed jaw and a handle s,nd formed with inclined teeth 36, and a shank 8 carrying the movable jaw and pivoted to a sleeve-member 15 by a pin 12. The two shanks are held in contact by a spring on the fixed jaw. The member 15 which is slidable upon the shank 1 houses a pivoted locking block 24 formed with inclined teeth 33 adapted to engage the teeth 36 to lock the sliding jaw in adjusted position. The block 24 is pivoted upon a pin 25 and is held rearwardly by a spring 29, and a bevelled face on the block 24 engages a bevelled face on the member 15 to force the teeth 33, 36 into closer engagement when the jaws are gripping an object. The block 24 is operated by a finger piece 37, which moves within a slot 38, Fig. 4 in the member 15 and snaps behind a lug therein when it is moved to disengage the teeth 33, 36.
