Abstract
1,265,295. Pliers. FORGES STEPHANOISES S.A. 9 July, 1970 [11 July, 1969], No. 33318/70. Hoading B4W. A pair of pliers or wrench comprises handles 1 and 2 having jaws 1a and 2a respectively, the arms being pivoted together by a pin 3 and being biased apart by a spring 6. The pin has a spring loaded pawl 7 pivotally connected thereto, the pawl sliding in a notched slot 4. A spring 9 biases the pawl and handle 1 pivots in a slot 5 in handle 2. In operation, from an open position as shown in Fig. 1, closing of the handles causes spring 6 to urge jaw 1a toward jaw 2a to grip an object 11. In such a position the pawl is urged into locking engagement with a notch enabling further gripping pressure to be applied to the handles. On releasing the handles spring 6 forces them apart in which position the pawl 7 is disengaged from the notch.
