Abstract
1279921 Pliers S. HASHIMOTO 8 April 1970 [1 Dec 1969] 16562/70 Heading B4W A pair of pliers comprises a pair of head blocks 1 provided with circlip engaging pins 23 and a pair of handles 5 and the head blocks 1 are adapted to slide linearly towards and away from each other by operation of the handles which are pivoted with a spring 31 interposed between them. Each pin 23 consists of a stem portion of different diameters to accomodate various types of circlips. Tubular and rod like sliding members 2, 3 are provided on either sides of wall blocks 13 provided on the head blocks 1. The handles 5 each terminate in a plate 6 having a hole 7 through which a pivot 8 is passed and the handles are provided with cut-outs 17, 22. Cam plates 9 are adapted to couple the heads 1 to respective handles 5. Each cam plate is provided with a pivot receiving hole 10 and a slot 16 receiving a sliding pin 18. A pin 12 of each cam plate 9 engages in a respective hole 14 on the head block 1. The arrangement is such that the cams 9 and hence the heads 1 can be selectively engageable with either of the handles 5 by means of the sliding pin 18. When each pin 18 is fitted in a cut-out 17 of a handle 5, on grasping the handles 5 the head blocks 1 move away from each other and are closed by means of the spring 31. If each sliding pin 18 is engaged in a cut-out 22 of a handle 5, grasping of the handles will cause the head blocks 1 to move towards each other. In an alternative embodiment the handles 5 are directly joined to the blocks 1 without using the cam plates 9.
