Abstract
596,769. Combination pliers. CADDY, S. C. Aug. 3, 1945, No. 19960. [Class 61 (ii)] Combination pliers more particularly for cutting wire, comprise crossed jaw levers pivoted together at 16 and formed beyond the pivot with coacting jaws 9, 11 arranged substantially in one plane and adapted for gripping or cutting as by means of cutter edges 9<1>, 11<1> and at one side of the pivot with three coacting shearing notches, one notch 8 on the jaw lever 2, 9 lying between the two other notches 6, 15 provided respectively on the head 5 of the lever 1 and on the short jaw lever 11, 12 connected at 13 to the lever 1, the wire &c. being thus held squarely up to the notches during the cutting and moreover gripped by a fourth member or plate 17 pivoted on the bolt 16 and influenced by a spring 18 to move across the cutter notches as the hand levers are closed and retracted by a pin 19 on the jaw lever 2 as the two jaw levers open under the influence of spring 27. The ends of the levers are formed as a screw-driver 23 and tack remover 24 and a lug 25 with aperture 26 is provided for guiding a wire whilst binding it round another wire or object.
