275,768. Coventry Chain Co., Ltd., and Cattanach, R. S. July 5, 1926. Riveting.-A device for extracting rivets from chains, or for heading the rivets, comprises a body part 2 having an extension 3 for gripping in a vice and a centrally located abutment 4. A slide 7 is guided longitudinally on the base 2 and has a key 22 adapted to co-operate with a clamp 20 to constitute an abutment for the inside of one of the chain link members 11. The slide is actuated by a screw 8 and a tommy-bar and carries the two rivets of the link 11 against pins 19 in a block 18 which may be spigoted in the abutment 4, thereby removing one of the link members from the rivets. When heading rivets in the assembled chain, the work is located against an anvil 6, spigoted in the abutment 4, by a hollow-sided finder inserted through the boss 28, the work being clamped in the required position by an adjustable pad 27 on a lever 23 secured bv a screw 26 in a pivoted yoke 24. The finder is then removed and the heading performed by a snap 30. The pad 27 may be leather-faced.
