Abstract

207,666. Habisreutinger, O. Oct. 14, 1922. Vices.- A leather workers' vice or clamp of the kind comprising a pair cf jaws, one of which is fixed to a standard and the other is adapted to be moved into clamping position by a foot lever against the action of a spring, is provided with a seat adapted to he connected to the standard of the clamp by a pin at the end of the seat engaging a hole in the standard, the seat being partly supported by the standard when so connected. The jaw 3 is secured to a standard 2 fixed to a base 1, and the other jaw 5 is pivoted to the standard at 4. The jaw 5 is held open by a spring 6 and is closed by a bolt 7 connected to a treadle 8 pivoted at 9, the treadle 8 being provided with a tooth 10 co-acting with a rack 11 on the standard to lock the jaw 5 in its gripping position. A projection 30 on the seat 28 extends between the jaws 3, 5 and has a pin 31 engaging in a boss 32 in the standard 2. The legs 29 are of such length that when the seat is connected to the clamp the leg nearest the standard does not touch the ground, so that the weight of the operator holds the clamp firmly in position. The jaws are formed of flexible material such as tough wood.
