The arrangenient of the crosspiece 17 tends to reinforce and protect the ends of the legs V7 so that there is less likelihood of the latter catching upon Jforeign objects `and becoming broken; furtherinore'the sides of the plate l0 preferably are in juxtaposition to the legs, particularly the outer ends ofthe saine, so that an inward thrust upon the end of a leg is resisted by the corresponding side of the plate and so that the plate is posit-ioned to plate being movable toa folded position in substantially a common` plane, said plate then having side portions in juxtaposition to the inner sides of the legs throughout substantially their entire extent and having the crosspiece in alignment with the ends of the legs, whereby the plate protects the legs when the device is in its folded condition. A device of the class described, comprising a fiat support having'spacedlegs joined by'a handle portion at one end, aninterinediate plate disposed between the legs, pivotal connections between the plate and legs, said plate having an opening inthe region of the connections, the opening having a substantially V-shaped heel-receivingV pori tion at its end which is toward the handle,

and a toe-engaging crosspiece at the opposite end of the opening, said support and plate beging movable to a folded `position in. substantiallyA a common plane with the ends of theflegs in alignment with the outer Ledge of thecrosspiece, Vthe sides of the plate adjoining the edge, of the legs being in close juxtaposition tothe latter whereby'the plate protects thelegs.
