To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE J.VVALSH,C11L1 zen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shovel Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in shovel guards of that class described in Letters Patent, Number 958,245, issued to me March 29, 1910.

The object of the present invention is to provide a device more efficient both as to its ability to relieve the strain upon the feet of a person using the device and as a protector for the shovel upon which it is to be used, as well as increasing its usefulness by so arranging it that it may be used on either side of the shovel blade.

Referring to the accompanying drawings 1 is a shovel blade upon the upper edges of which is a guard preferably stamped from sheet metal, said guard being curved slightly more than the usual curve of a shovel blade whereby it will frictionally engage the shovel blade when placed thereon and be held firmly thereto.

ment on the blade. A pair of jaws 5 and 6 depend from the head portion 4 of the device and have a space 9 therebetween so that the jaws may straddle the blade. Each of these jaws are bifurcated legs 5, 5", 6 and 6*. One purpose of these legs is to provide a means by which the shovel edge may be gripped and twisted slightly to permit the device to straddle the edge. This is done by engaging the edge of the blade with one oppositely disposed set of legs and then twisting the device with the hand until the other set of legs comes into alinement with the edge when the attachment may be easily forced into position.

I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 7 1. A shovel attachment consisting of a curved grooved member having oppositely disposed depending portions, the ends of said member extending beyond said depending portions, said depending portions being bifurcated, forming oppositely disposed sets of lugs.

2. A shovel attachment consisting of a foot engaging member, adapted to engage the upper edge of a shovel, said member being curved slightly out of the natural curve of a shovel, said member having a longitudinal groove to engage the upper edgeof said shovel, said foot engaging member having a'pair of oppositely disposed depending clamp members, said clamp members having pairs of depending extensions.
