Abstract
A boot jack has a tubular steel stem 1 with a moulded plastics handle 2 at the upper end and a foot pad 3 at the lower end. Close above the foot pad, a pair of lugs 4 are welded to the stem and carry a pivot pin 5. Between the lugs and carried on the pin is a tab 6 welded to the centre of a clevis 7 of formed rod. The clevis has divergent limbs 8, these being spaced to allow a boot to be gripped by them. The ends of the limbs have foot pads 9 and are down turned to ground level when the stem is inclined slightly forwards. The tab is cut away at its lower corner (10, fig.2) to allow it to pivot down. Its top 15 corner 11 extends against the stem to hold the clevis from hinging upwards. In use the foot of the boot jack is placed on the ground behind the boot to be pulled off. The boot is pulled back into the clevis and the booted leg lifted, leaving the boot in the clevis. The user steadies himself by leaning on the handle. It is envisaged that the boot jack will be used not only for outdoors boots but also for indoors shoes.
Description
BOOT JACK
The present invention relates to a boot jack.
Conventional boot jacks comprise a short notched plank, with a foot beneath the plank at the inner end of the notch. One foot is placed on the un-notched end of the plank and the boot to be taken off is placed in the notch as its heel. Steadying himself against a convenient wall or pieces of furniture the user can draw his leg from the boot. When the second boot comes to be pulled off, the un-booted foot is placed on the boot jack and is liable to pick up dirt from the sole of the booted foot just placed on it.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved boot jack.
According to the invention there is provided a book jack comprising: * a stem having a foot at one end and a handle at its upper end, * a boot engaging clevis attached to the stem above the foot, the clevis having down turned ends arranged to engage the ground and hold the stem generally up for use.
In the preferred embodiment, the clevis is pivotally connected to the stem, to hang down when the boot jack is stored by being hung up by the handle, the pivot being limited to pivot upwards only to a use position in which the clevis extends out from the stem.
One or both of the limbs of the clevis can be provided with boot scraper plates. S *
*:*. To help understanding of the invention, a specific embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a boot jack of the invention stood up for use; Figure 2 is a more detailed side view of the lower part of the boot jack.
Referring to the drawings, the boot jack there shown has a tubular steel stem I with a moulded plastics handle 2 at the upper end and a foot pad 3 at the lower end.
Close above the foot pad, a pair of lugs 4 are welded to the stem and carry a pivot pin 5. Between the lugs and carried on the pin is a tab 6 welded to the centre of a clevis 7 of formed rod. The clevis has divergent limbs 8, these being spaced to allow a boot be gripped by them. The ends of the limbs have foot pads 9 and are down turned to ground level when the stem is inclined slightly forwards.
The tab is cut away at its lower corner 10, to allow it to pivot down. Its top corner II extends against the stem to hold the clevis from hinging upwards.
The invention is not intended to be restricted to the details of the above described embodiment. For instance, an optional extra is a boot scraper plate 12 on one of the limbs of the clevis. Further, the straight handle could be replaced by other configurations, in particular a spherical knob. S. * * * 5.5 ** S * S *5** ***S * . S... 5...* * * ** S * S* * S.
