180,072. Larsen, J. N. Feb. 22, 1921. Making chains.-Relates to a chain repairing- tool of the kind comprising a fixed jaw member and a pivoted jaw member provided with jaws for closing the links of chains and with spreading-points for opening the same, the fixed jaw member being rigid with one handle and the pivoted jaw member operated by a pivoted handle and consists in providing the pivoted handle with a cam for forcing the pivoted jaw member into co-operative relation with the fixed jaw member. The handle carrying the fixed jaw may be secured by a clip to a work bench. The pivoted handle 4 is pivoted between side plates 2, 3 fixed to the other handle 1 and its cam 5 engages the back of the pivoted jaw member 6, which is forced by a spring into contact with the cam. Roughened surfaces 15, 16 are formed on the jaws for gripping and closing chain links, and the wedgeshaped points 9, 10, for opening chain links are formed on lateral extensions 8, 11, of the jaws so as to slide one over the other when the jaws are closed. A clip 22 is provided on the handle 1 to enable the tool to be attached to a work bench.
