[Class 61 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] Pliers which cut and strip the insulation of wire are provided with a pair of jaws which first close on the work for cutting and subsequent - ly one of the jaws moves longitudinally of the wire. As shown in Figs. I and III, cutting jaws b, b<1> are pivoted together at 1 and one of the jaws carries a slide z the movement of which is controlled by means of a pair of pins and slots. The slide is pivoted to a spring- pressed link d attached to a handle 3. In operation, the jaws are first closed to cut through the insulation, and continued movement of the handle 3 moves the slide z and jaw b<1> longitudinally to strip the cable. In a modification, a pair of jaws are pivoted together by a pin running in a cam slot, the initial cutting movement of the jaws being obtained by a pivotal movement without the pin sliding, subsequent sliding taking place to move one of the jaws relatively to the other in the longitudinal direction of the wire. In Fig. X is shown a further modification in which there are two cam slots F, E, one of the handles B having a projection G, which as the handles are pressed together, initially engages a projection H, while the pin I moves part way along the slot F. On subsequent movement the projection escapes and a second pin K moves along its slot E while the jaws separate longitudinally as indicated.
