Abstract

249,289. Allen, J. Feb. 18, 1925. Pliers, cutters, and pincers.-Pliers, nippers, &c. particularly for use in manicure work, are formed from a steel strip a shaped at the ends a', a<2> to form nail-cutters and bent to a U-shape. Each jaw has a rectangular slot a<3> in which is inserted a bent lever b having a reduced portion b<1> to fit in the slots and provided with lateral projections b<3> engaging a depression a<6> in the upper jaw and a portion b<5> engaging the lower jaw which is preferably rounded at a<7>, the entire device consisting of two separate parts and avoiding pins &c. for the fulcrum of the lever. The projections b" act as a fulcrum and the portions a<7>, b<5> have sliding engagement when the lever is depressed to close the jaws. When not in use the lever is moved back along the slots a' and its free end is inserted under a retaining clip a<5>. In a modified construction the lever is formed with a slot through which pass reduced portions on the jaws. The latter may be made of separate pieces joined together.
