Abstract
640,204. Valve spring lifters. ARTHUR, E. M. Feb. 11, 1948, No. 3944. [Class 61(ii)] In an outward grip valve spring lifter comprising a pair of handle levers 3, 4 pivoted together at 1a, the ends remote from the handles being connected by pivots 8 and 11 to points on the jaws 7 and 10 intermediate the ends, the tail of each jaw is connected to the handle part of the opposite lever, the one by a ratchet bar 9 and the other by a U-shaped slide which engages over the lever 3 The ratchet bar 9 pivoted to the tail of the jaw 7 and passing through the bifurcated handle lever 3 is pivoted at 9a to the handle lever 4. The jaws may be held open by a pawl rotatably mounted on the handle lever 3 and having a wedge-shaped rim 13 to engage between the teeth on the ratchet bar. The pawl is urged into release position by a spring 14, a projection 15 being provided thereon to bear against the side of the ratchet bar. The jaws 7 and 10 are bifurcated, the distance between the two sides of each being adujstable by the screwed pivot pins 8 and 11.
