Abstract

618,203. Wrenches. LOGAN, G. T. Nov. I, 1946, No. 32507. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1945. [Class 61 (iii)] A wrench comprises two jaw members 29, 32, one of bifurcated construction to receive the other and pivoted together at 31 and a handle member 20 pivoted at 25 to an extension 24 of the jaw 32 and having a cam end 23 adapted to engage the tail of jaw 29, the pivots being so disposed relative to the point 23 as to obtain a mechanical advantage a/b for the handle and c/d for the jaws. A spring 26 is interposed between adjacent surfaces of the handle and jaw extension and backward movement of the handle allows the jaws to open and slip over the corners of the nut. Fig. 12 shows a similarly acting wrench including a jaw 46<SP>1</SP> on a screw-adjustable shank 47 carried by a body 49 pivoted at 53 to the other jaw member 52<SP>1</SP>, and Fig. 10 shows a "crowfoot" wrench actuated by a tommybar 39 and stem 40 engaging a split socket member 42 secured by collars 43 and having a cam arm engaging the tail of the pivoted jaw 34.
