Abstract

A two part wrench 1 that can be locked in position to encompass the fixing nut below a tap using a square lock pin 2 which may be attached to a "T" bar. Thus allowing the nut to rotate and freely, tighten or loosen whilst connected to the water supply.

Description
BATH AND WASH BASIN-(SIIK) FAUCET/TAP WRENCH This invention relates to a device that will tighten or loosen the threaded nut which retains and positions and secures faucets/taps:- 1. As a new installation 2. During routine maintenance 3. During removal 4. During replacement The most conventional type of tightening or loosening tools consist of a type of open ended spanner, adjustable wrench, spring loaded clamp type I Bar or a type of self adjusting clamp.
The system I have invented is a two part wrench that can be opened from a locked position and be positioned in place around an existing installation. -Once in the closed position around the installation it can easily be relocked to form a completely encompassing socket type wrench. (See Fig 3.). Once the T' bar is fitted into the lock socket, the wrench becomes a complete tool and can perform the tasks required of it.
The device I propose has several advantages over conventional tools in this trade.
The main advantage is that the proposed wrench is of a compact design and can be used on installations that are already in use and connected.
Also when the wrench has been assembled it forms a socket type of tool which has the added advantage of forming a (6) six sided all encompassing tool which greatly reduces the risk of the corners of the fixing nut being "rounded off' as happens at times when the nut is very tight.
The invention will not be described solely by way of example but with references to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1. shows the open wrench Fig 2. shows the closed wrench in a position ready to be locked.
Fig 3. shows the method of turning the wrench to tighten and loosen whilst in situ' Fig. 1. shows the wrench in the open position. The drawing represents the size required for a basin tap each different application would require a different size wrench (thus making a set if required by tradesmen).
A = main body section B = secondary section with locking tongue C split pin pivot Fig 2 shows that the wrench can easily be assembled and locked in position.
1 = closed wrench (Part 1 of proposed invention) 2 = 3/8" square headed lock pin (Part 2 of proposed invention) 3 = extension T' bar used to position and turn the wrench around the pipe. This could be a stock item from a socket set (it is not part of the proposed invention).
Fig.3. Shows the proposed wrench in situ' ready to tighten or loosen as required.

Claims (2)

1. A two part wrench that can be opened and closed to completely encompass a threaded nut at the base of a faucet/tap. The two part wrench can be locked with a 3/8" square lock pin.
2. A stock item to form a T bar from a socket set is inserted into the lock pin to enable the wrench to be turned clockwise -anticlockwise at will.
