Hand-grip wrenches.-In a spanner or wrench of the type in which the sliding jaw is actuated by a toggle and an actuating lever pivoted to the shank, the knuckle of the toggle slidably engages the actuating lever. As shown in Fig. 1, the fixed jaw a is integral with the shank 1, on which slides the jaw 2, the toggle arms 3 and 4 connecting the sliding jaw 2 to the shank 1. On the toggle arm 3 is an extension b; having a projection extending through a slot in the actuating lever 5, a cross-pin passing through the projection and engaging the back of the lever. A spring 6 normally keeps the jaws open. In a modification, the actuating- lever 5 lies on the inner side of the shank 1 and is pivoted near to its inner edge.
