Abstract

Wrenches.-Relates to wrenches of the kind in which the movable jaw is locked in adjusted position bv a serrated block located in a recess in the movable jaw and slidably guided at right-angles to the direction of its motion. In the wrench shown in Fig. 1, the jaw 3, slidably mounted by yokes 4, 5 on the serrated shank 1 of the fixed jaw 2, is locked in adjusted position by a serrated block 8 enclosed in a recess in the jaw 3 and released by a pivoted finger piece 10 against the action of a spiral spring 9 between the end of the block 8 and the bottom of the recess. In a modification, Fig. 8, a yoke 24, riveted to the movable jaw 23, engages loosely the shank 19 of the fixed jaw 21, and an operating-lever 20 is pivoted to the shank 19 by a pin 30 which serves also to attach a yoke 31 loosely encircling the serrated shank 22 of the jaw 23, the construction allowing a swinging motion of the lever 20. A serrated block 33 engages the serrations on the shank 22 and is released therefrom by pressing the projecting ends of a pin 35 passing through the block against a spring 34 enclosed between the end of the block and the tail 29 of the shank 19. The jaw 3, Fig. 1, may be provided with a jawface mounted thereon and the jaw and face may be of a different material to the shank 1.
