Abstract

Sliding and pivoted jaw wrenches; jaw faces; handles.-A wrench of the type having a jaw slidable relatively to a stationary member and means for holding the jaw in adjusted position with respect to another jaw pivoted to that member, comprises a movable jaw with a shank portion slidable in a bore of the casing, a lateral extension of the casing to which the other jaw is pivotally connected, and a locking key in the lateral extension co-operating with the shank of the movable jaw for holding it rigidly in adjusted position. The tapered shank 16 of the slidable-jaw member 15 is mounted in a housing 13 rigid with the handle 10, and the divided shank 24 of the jaw member 22 is pivoted at 23 to a lug 21 on a lateral extension of the housing member 12. A spring 18 forces the slidable jaw towards the pivoted jaw, the slidable jaw being retracted by means of a cross pin 20 passing through slots in the housing member. When the jaws are engaged with the nut &c., the slidable jaw is clamped in position by a wedge or key 32 actuated by a screw 33. The jaws are formed with flat surfaces 29 which may be serrated, and also with angular recesses adapted to engage the corners of a nut. Finger grooves 11 are provided on the handle.
