Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve device for controlling the supply of water to a container comprises a sluice valve actuated by fluid pressure under the control of a float actuated auxiliary valve so arranged that the opening of the main valve is delayed until the level has fallen such an amount as will permit a more or less full opening of the sluice valve before the rise of level consequent upon such opening operates to initiate the closing movement. The main valve c is actuated by a power cylinder d connected by pipes k, l to a four-way rotary or piston valve g provided with a pressure inlet connection j and with an exhaust pipe m. the float h for actuating the control valve is arranged in a chamber e connected by a pipe f with the main reservoir a and carries a toothed rack engaging a pinion n loosely mounted on the spindle of the cock g. The pinion n has a pair of projections n<1>, n<2> adapted to engage alternately with the pivoted weighted lever to move it from one side to the other. When moved over its topmost position the lever falls, causing a projection o' to engage one or other of the projections p, p<1> on a collar fast to the cock spindle and so initiate the opening or closing of the main valve. The device may be modified to act as a discharge valve.
