Abstract

202,553. Dodson, E. Oct. 18, 1922. Spray carburettors. - An anti-detonating fluid such as water, alcohol or the like is admitted to the carburettor air passage by a conduit B provided along its walls with air-inlet holes B<5> which may increase in number towards the outlet end B<2> of the conduit or may be situated entirely at that end as at B<6>. The function of these holes is to admit air to pick up and carry along any fluid that may cling to or be condensed upon the walls and to prevent further clinging or condensation until the outlet is reached. An air vent is provided at B<7>. The outlet end B<2> of the conduit may be bevelled as at B<4> or, in modifications, may be bent round to discharge in the direction of the main air stream. With a barrel type of throttle D, Fig. 4, the outlet end of the conduit is preferably on the side of the casing C remote from the cut-off edge D<2>. The anti-detonating fluid may be vaporized before introduction into the carburettor. Specification 196,443 is referred to.
