Abstract

566,245. Induction systems. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and KINGS, L. T. May 14, 1943, No. 7686. [Class 7 (ii)] In an induction system for an internal-combustion engine having a downdraught carburetter B and in which a well D is pro-. vided at the lowest part of the inlet manifold C, the well is separated from the manifold by a wall E having a small hole H through which excess fuel drains to the well and the well is vented by a passage J near the top thereof. The exhaust manifold is separated from the well by a plate G of copper or other high conductivity metal. When the engine starts the manifold vacuum causes air to flow into the well through vent J and form a mixture with the fuel in the well, assisted by exhaust manifold heat. This mixture is drawn through the hole H into the engine until excess fuel in the well has been evaporated.
