Abstract

1,030,509. Crankcase ventilation. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 10, 1964 [Oct. 9, 1963], No. 28510/64. Heading FIB In a crankcase ventilation system air is fed from the intake air filter 21, Fig. 1, through a pipe 4 to the crankcase and crankcase vapours are returned to the induction system through a pipe 8. In the V-engine shown the pipe 4 is branched and connected to the valve cover of each bank of cylinders and the pipe 8, which includes a filter 9, is connected to the outlet pipe 20 of the filter. In a modification, Fig. 3, (not shown) the pipe 8 leads to a space 13 connected through gap 16 to the throat of a venturi 17 in the filter outlet and the space 13 is filled with metal wool forming a flame arrestor. The pipe 12 leading to the crankcase opens into a recess 26 passing through the flame trap and is covered by a flame arrestor grid 15.
