Abstract

896,125. Cooling cylinders. MOTORENFABRIK HATZ G.m.b.H. Dec. 1, 1959 [April 15, 1959], No. 40770/59. Class 7(2). In a light metal cast cylinder head having vertical cooling fins 10 joined by webs 11, there is at least one cooling duct 12 through the head. The duct 12 passes between inlet and exhaust valve guides 6a, 6b and has air drawn through it by connection at one end 12b to the inlet pipe (not shown) of a cooling air suction blower, the other end being formed by ducts 12a passing on either side of fuel injector mounting 8 and pre-combustion chamber 9 to entries 13. A rib 14 sub-divides the downstream end of the duct 12, which is of partly tapering form downwardly to follow the line of inlet and exhaust ducts 5a, 5b. The invention is applicable to multi - cylinder engines.
