Abstract

488,916. Exhaust systems. SOC. ANON A. SAURER. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4389. Convention date, Feb. 17, 1937. [Class 7 (ii)] An exhaust manifold 7 is mounted, in an inaccessible position between the rows of cylinders in a multi-cylinder engine, by providing its branches with flanges 10 which are introduced into the end of straight grooves 11, extending along a cylinder block, and fixed by retaining members 12, which may be resilient and tapering, and which are also forced into the grooves from one end. The manifold 7 is preferably lagged with heat-insulating material and surrounded by an air space, air being induced by motion of the vehicle, or by a pump.
