541,184. Utilizing unvaporized fuel. CANTRILL, H., and READ, J. R. May 14, 1940, No. 8667. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In means for collecting and utilizing unvaporized fuel, particularly for use with a downdraught carburetter a and super-charger c, an elbow pipe d between these two parts is formed with a well e which is provided with a drain pipe h leading to the atmosphere, a further pipe i, from the induction manifold g entering the drain pipe by a nozzle j. When the engine is stationary, fuel collecting in the well is drained away by the pipe h. During slowrunning conditions, the vacuum in the elbow d draws in air through the drain pipe to vaporize the collected fuel. During high-speed flight at large throttle openings, the pressure in the manifold g is delivered by the pipe i to vaporize collected fuel. At part throttle openings the pressure in the elbow d is again below atmospheric, and air is drawn in through the drain pipe. A diffuser tube may be arranged above the nozzle j. Specification 347,785 is referred to.
