Abstract

Radial-flow (bladed) type; balancing moving parts; blades; reversing.-A radial-flow turbinewheel provided with a large number of blades is formed by cutting steam passages 8 in the thickened rim 111 of a disk 11. The passages are cut in such a way that crescent-shaped blades 112 are formed, standing out at an oblique angle from the face of the disk. The steam jet is directed upon the periphery. Figs. 4 and 9 show a combination of three such disks 11, 12, 13, but other numbers may be used, and a single disk may be combined with a disk carrying no blades. By displacing one disk angularly relatively to the other, as shown with the disks 11, 12, Fig. 4, a better balance of endthrust is obtained. One of the sets of blades in Fig. 4 may be used for reverse driving.
