Abstract
157,604. Hayhurst, W. Nov. 11, 1919. Disc-supported-blade pumps; balancing moving parts.-End thrust is balanced in impellers made of ceramic materials having blades mounted on one side of a disc by cutting away or perforating the impeller both in the channels between the blades and in the blades themselves, or in either. Fig. 2 shows an impeller with perforations b in the disc a and in the blades d. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the disc portions between the blades are cut away in addition to the use of the perforations, and Fig. 4 shows a further modification in which certain portions of the disc between the blades are cut away and other portions are provided with perforations b. The perforations shown in Figs. 2 and 4 extend in a similar manner all over the disc, and may reduce the surface area of the disc by 20 or 30 per cent.
