Abstract

614. Haddan, R., [Universal Turbine Co.]. Jan. 8. Radial-flow type. - An outward-flow turbine comprises a central disk 22, Fig. 1, mounted upon a shaft 20, Figs. 1 and 2, and outer disks 24 between which are secured long blades 26 and short blades 36, 37, 38. Mounted between the blades 26 and arranged at right-angles thereto are a number of corrugated blades 30. Motive fluid is admitted by way of pipes 15, 17 to annular steam-chambers 14, 16 and thence by ports 44 to segmental steam-chests 40. It is then expanded in fixed blades 43, passes radially through the rotor blades, and is finally exhausted through a port 11. Regulating.-The ports 44 are controlled by valves 45 so that one or more of the steamchests 40 are cut out. Reversing.-For reversing turbines, the blades on each side of the central disk 22 may be oppositely inclined for alternative use.
