osxaia ANTON WIBEEG, .OE EINSPONG, SWEDEN, ASSIGNOR, :BY MESEE ASSIGNMENTS, '.rO AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNeSrEi/is NGTURBIN, or STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, A. conromi'rroiv.
To all whom 'it may concern;
Be it known that I, OSKAR ANTON WIBERG, a subject of the King of Sweden, residingiat Finspong,` Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements yin Elastic- Fluid Turbines, of which the following is a specification.v j
-The present invention relates to elasticluid turbines of the type comprising two rotors orblade wheels which rotate inopposite directions, and which have axially extending interleaving blade rings.. J
In connection withA the operation of elasn ticuid turbines it is often desirable to ex* tract elastic fluid from an intermediate stage forl 'industrial purposes, or to admit low pressure fluid thereto from a separate source.
l In a turbine of the. type referred to, howvet ever, this is not possible without special provisions, and the obJect of the present invention is to provide a new and improved arrangement and construction wherebyelastic.
fluid may be extracted from such a turbine. For a consideration of what I believe to be novel and my invention,A attention is d1- rected' to the accompanying specification andv the claims appended thereto;
In the drawing',.l1`igure 1 is an axial sectional view of a part of a turbine illustrating my invention; Fig. 2 isI 'a similar view of a second form which my, invention may take, and Fig. 3 is a. detail viewof certain of the parts of Fig. 2.
In carrying Vout my invention, provide in connection with the double rotary system of blade rings, i. c., with the system which comprises the axially extendingin'terleaving Yblade rings, two separate blade systems, one" associated with eachrotor, which separate blade systems are-located after the double rotary system as regards the flow of actuating fluid, and I then extract elastic fluid from between such two separate blade systems or admit low pressure fluid thereto. The two separate blade systems may be either of the axial flow type, z'. e., provided with radially extending blades, or the radial, flow type; 2'. e., provided with axially ex-v tending blades. The pressure and hence 'niperatureofl the extracted elasticl uid will depend uponthe relation "between the number of blade rings in the double rotary systemand the number in the two separate Erasmo-FLUID runtime.
fbine shafts which carry rotors 8 and`9. The
rotors 8 and 9 have ringsof inter caving blades 10 forming a double rotary bl de system, the rotors rotatingv inopposite directions,.as is lwell understood. 11 indicates suitable labyrinth packings which are situated between the Outer surface of each rotor Y and the adjacent stationary 'disk carried by the turbine casing. The steam flowing radially outward between the rotors and 9 exerts an axial thrust thereon tending to separate them; this is balanced by the opposing l parts carrying the packing and v through which steam flows. 12yindicates chests from Specification 'of Letters Patent.- Patented Jan, 14, 1919. appiication inea .iuiy 19, 1917. serial No@` 131,623.
which elastic fluid is admitted by passages 13 and 13a-to the blade rings. 14 indicates 'a motive Huid chamber arranged outside the rings of blades 10, the outer wall llthereof being formedby an annular stationary ring A 4suitably supported on the casing 5. The
chamber 14 is annular and serves to equalize the pressure of the streamsissuing from the various short blade lengths inthe radial Y flow system and it also serves as an equalizing chamber to distribute steam to the staf' tionary device directing steam tothe-axial flow ,blade system. Further, the wall 15 q serves to protect the outer casing frointhe ei'ects ofhot steam, it being noted that between the wall and the Casin is-an annular space lilled with steam at ex aust'pressure.
Carried by the wall 15 are stationaryblade or guiderings 1 6 and Vcooperating therewith are movable blade rings 17 carried byeach of the rotors 8` and 9. In the present in'- stance only one stationaryblade ring and' one rotating blade ring is sho'wn in connection with each rotor, but it will be under` stood that a suitable numbeifivill be used as.
required to give the desired pressurefuand temperature as referred to above; Y 18 indi- .cat'es the Vexhaust chamberv of the turbine which is connected tO a condenser in the chainberll is a. conduit 19v through which elastic Huid is extracted forcommercial` urwith a suitable valve (not shown)v4 foxiregulating the ilow through it. f;
10o usual Vmanner.` Communicating with Vthe y Referring now to the modification shown in Figs. 2 and 3, 20 indicates the turbine casing, 21 and 22 the shafts, 23 and 24 the rotors carried thereby, 25 the double rotary blade system, 26 the motive fluid chest, and
27, 27a the passages leading therefrom to the blade rings. .These parts correspond to the similar parts of Fi .'1.l -28 indicates the chamber corresponding to chamber 14: of Fig. l, from which elastic fluid is extracted for industrial purposes, and 29 the extraction conduit having a valve 30 therein. In the arrangement here shown, the outer wall of chamber 28 is' formed by a wall of the turbine casing, and on -each'side of the lchamber is a stationary ring 31 carrying,. V1n the present insta-nce, two rings of' stationary blades 32, associated with which;
are tWorings of rotating blades 33 carried by the adpicent rotor 23 or 24. In this arrangement a suitable valve mechanism is provided for controlling the flow of elastic fluid from chamber 28 to the vane system,
` comprising blades 32 and 33.` AIn the present maintained constant under 'varying operatlng conditions.
y improved construction can also be employed to admit steam to the turbine from a low pressure source, as for example a pnonycondenslng lengine or the exhaust vfrom-"a heating or cooking system. vIIx-accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes,l I have described the princlple of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider ftofreplresent th e best embodiment thereof;
'butffdesre to have it understood that the wtatthe lnventlon can be vcarried out by paratisshown is only illustrative, and
Othermeans.
