Abstract

177,785. Rich, L. J. April 2, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Vacuum tubes.-In a three-electrode valve a fall of potential is produced along the grid which may be adjusted so as to be equal to or bear any relation to the fall along the cathode. The leads of a helical grid 6, surrounding a straight filament cathode 3, are brought outside the bulb, and connected with a battery through a variable resistance. Uniformitv in the'current in the valve between the cathode and the anode 9 along the length of these electrodes may be secured by making the fall along the grid slightly greater than that along the cathode. The resistance of the grid is preferably much higher than the resistance of the cathode so as to avoid heating.
