Abstract
170,096. Macrorie, A. K., Airey, H. Morris-, Shearing, G., and Mullard, S. R. July 10, 1920. Vacuum tubes. - A leading-in conductor for a filament or other electrode of a thermionic valve is made of non-uniform diameter so as to enable a larger current to be carried by the conductor through a lead or other metal seal. As shown, the conductor A is made of smaller diameter where it is sealed into a silica tube T, and metal seal B. A silica tube D may be arranged around the conductor. In another arrangement, the conductor is of smaller diameter only at the part in contact with the metal seal, and the silica tube T makes an easy fit with the conductor.
