Abstract

265,711. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Duke, S. M. Nov. 20, 1925. Vacuum tubes.- A method of sealing off the wide vitreous exhaust tube of an evacuated vessel such as a thermionic valve, consists in inserting a support, such as a copper thimble, in the tube at the place at which the tube is to be sealed off, the tube being then fused and sealed close to the support. The vessel 1 is exhausted through the tube 2 by means of a pump connected at 3, and the thimble 6 is moved by a piece of iron 7 and a magnet, not shown, along the tube until the end rests against a constriction 8. The iron is withdrawn and the tube fused about the rounded end of the thimble.
